It's 08.08.08 today! For the Chinese, 888 is a very lucky number combination. That's why they made sure the Olympics will open on this very day. The opening ceremonies started on 08:08:08 AM, that's too much luckiness I guess. We all bid our athletes goodluck! 'Tis our short Beijing Olympic update. Now let's start the real article.I grew up in a family of humanitarian workers. My parents, my sisters, my brother have all been part of a humanitarian group and recently, I joined them in this field. My parents actually met during a humanitarian work in Africa in 1975. That time, the Philippines is still under the Martial Law of president Ferdinand Marcos. They met in Kenya while my father is a volunteer doctor and my mom is then a teacher to kids. In 1977 they married. My eldest sister used to be part of an organization for street children, my second sister is a volunteer educator in the mountain schools of Cagayan and Ifugao, recently she went to Mindanao to teach Muslim kids. My older brother is a Green Peace member. Me? I used to be part of the World Health Organization Medical Mission team in college. The Philippine delegate to the 2008 Beijing Olympics flew to Beijing this morning. The delegation consists of 11 Filipino athletes and their coaches and other sports official left the country and is determined to make the country proud in the much awaited 2008 Beijing Olympics that will start on Friday, August 8. The qualified Filipino athletes that will represent the country in the Olympics are 15, but the remaining 4 will be flying to Beijing on August 11.The athletes that left Manila today are swimmers Miguel Molina, James Walsh, Joan Christel Simms, Ryan Arabejo and Daniel Coakley, divers Sheila Mae Perez and Ryan Rexel Fabriga, weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz, boxer Harry Taņamor and long jumpers Marestella Torres and Henry Dagmil.
