Panagbenga Festival - Baguio City

By ProTraveler at 02/18/08 19:42
The Panagbenga Festival, locally translated as the Flower Festival, but literally means "the season of blooming" is held annually for the whole month of February on the Philippine's summer capital, Baguio City. This is a month long celebration but the peak of the event is held every weekends of the month.

You will have the chance to see floats made out of fresh flowers that will make you feel you are on Disney. True.

The main purpose of the festival, aside from giving the people a celebration and feast of thanksgiving, the festival also aimed at making the tragedy of Baguio City in 1990, which was caused by a deadly earthquake, be forgotten. And I know, it was successful on this goal.

During the festival, you will have the chance to witness dance competitions in different categories like modern, folk, street/group and tribal/ethnic dances. But getting there is a bit difficult. Maybe the Lord of the Rings famed line goes by it, "If you want it, come and claim it". LOL.

From the start of the summer up to the end of it, Baguio City is at its busiest hour. This may not be the highest place but the position of the city is enough for it to be the coldest place in the country and eventually called the Summer Capital Of The Philippines. That is the reason why lots of people visit the city every year, they all want to relax, see a panoramic views of strawberry fields and do other things like horseback riding, boating and mountain climbing. Baguio City is also a place for retreat next to Tagaytay, which is the sub-summer capital and specializes more on retreat houses and convents.

So, visit now while the Panagbenga is still on the hook!
