A Night Without Internet Connection

09/24/09 21:40

This has been probably one of the worst weeks I've ever had when it comes to productivity, no thanks to the faulty Internet connection that I had in the previous days.

It reached its peak the other day when the RJ45 connected at the back of my machine was not recognized at all. No blinking lights at the back at all. I tried connecting it to my brother's computer but the results turned out to be just the same. That means that the problem is with the RJ45, not my ethernet port.

It was an early Sunday evening, during which I had decided to stay at home. However, due to the sudden emergency that landed on my lap, I had to go out of the house once again just to be able to accomplish some tasks that I needed to do.

So where to? I'm at least 15 minutes away from the nearest mall, while there were some Internet cafes along the road outside our village. I didn't want to transfer my files to my thumbdrive, so I just decided to bring my backpack and laptop with me and fled to the nearest SM Shopping Mall.

Thank goodness Burger King was there. The nice thing about this restaurant is that it gives free WiFi access, plus electric sockets for laptop charging to boot. That is something that you do not get from the Starbucks branches here in the country. So I just grabbed and ate some burger, fries, and juice, and brought out my laptop to work on some stuff. Come 9 PM, however, I was still not finished but the store had to close down.

So now I'm here at the lab, trying to cram the work that I was supposed to do last night and feeling so dizzy at the same time. I feel like puking already.

i know exactly what it feels like. it's more than just digital withdrawal... it was tantamount to offline flatline :)

Indeed! And when you've gotten used to fast broadband connection at home, the slower connectivity in those computer shops gets easily noticed.

Well right now I'm back in the mall once again, no thanks to Ondoy. :(
