Cebu Custom Computers Interview

By Interviewer at 04/03/08 06:53

Name of your website?

Cebu Custom Computers

Your name?

Brucewayne O'Dell

Your Location (city, etc)

Tayud/Lilo-an

What does your site represent?

I build / remanufacture / optimize / repair /add anti-malware configurations and sell Pentium based desktop computers at a very low price with full warranties on all of my work and products.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I love working on computers and have been doing so for 20 years, so I thought I would carry it over here now that I am living in the Philippines. Computers and labor on them has run away and is too high for many here and I want to show people that it doesn't have to be that expensive. I have also noticed that the technicians are not properly trained in the art of computer technology. Too many of them change expensive parts out when the only problem is a driver or setting which needs attended to through the keyboard, not by opening the unit up.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

1998, It was also a computer repair site, registered as Bruceco and it ran successfully until 2006, when I moved here.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

I liked the flow of the three c's in Cebu Custom Computers and it just hit me one day after about 3 days of deciding.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

My units can last much longer than any other here because my configurations depend on making the load lighter to make the unit run better. The Anti-malware is my pinnacle though, in the year since I installed it on my personal unit, I have had zero viruses, spyware or rootkit attacks. I devised this system myself and have seen it nowhere else, ever.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

Saving for a new home to raise our new daughter in and hopefully to send her to a nice school.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

Right now, times are a bit tough, as i only started in October 2007 here and it takes time to win people's trust when it comes to new things and new businesses. i do have a few very satisfied customers though and word is spreading slowly, but steadily.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I would add a couple of parts supply stores and keep doing my technical work in my home. I will probably never train anyone my secrets because of the fear of my ideas falling inti the wrong hands.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Maybe not, butit would be enough for me to build one or two units a day.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Landlords who promise that I can have a business, then tell me I had to move out when i would put up a sign. We have moved 4 times because of this. Also, it is harder for me to draw customers because I am a foreigner here, but we are the same in the U.S. and I know that trust must be earned.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Finding a good, steady supply of reasonably priced componnents and a Landlord who will keep their word. There seems to be much jealousy here, so many can't get ahead and hold themselves back by trying to tear down the other guy. They should learn that the more you have, the more you can spend with them. Also, the more they have, the more they can share with you.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Free ads, they are just great1 Word of mouth isn't as fast, but more effective than bragging about yourself in an ad, but ads do cover more ground and stimulate a few responses.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

I have had it since October, have remodelled it twice and don't see shutting it down anytime in the near future. Talikig to these people is great, they have many of the same interests I have. it is just amazing because my neighbors here don't seem to be able to have any interests other than trying to survive in this harsh world.

What is your website address?
