Davao's Festivals

By ProTraveler at 02/19/08 22:03
Today marks the end of the weeklong Kap'Yaan or Kap'Yan festival Jose Abad Santos in Davao Del Sur in Mindanao, Philippines.

It is a thanksgiving celebration for the good year and bountiful harvest for the municipality's products like pineapple, rice, corn and more. It is also the municipalty's main higlight festival of the year wherein they will choose their Biya ng Jose Abad Santos, literral translated as, Miss Jose Abad Santos, a pageant to choose the representative of the municipality in the future beauty pagents to come in another place. It also commemorates the founding date of the municipality. Many visitors line up Davao's transportation terminals for this event.

Now after your food, dance cultural plays et all in the Kap'Yan, you can opt to travel form Davao del Sur to Davao del Norte. The latter will be having a competition called Musikahan sa Tagum City (Music in Tagum City). The competition will be held in different categories like Choir Band, Rondalla and some ethnical/tribal instruments. There will also be a float parade competition and a dance competition. All in all there are over 9 categories and the prize for each category winner is up to 3 Million Pesos. Wow that was big considering its a provincial musical competition.

But the most awaited and funniest category may be the Harana MTV sa Tagum (MTV Serenade in Tagum). Everybody knows that one of the customs here in the Philippines regarding courtship is that you have to serenade the girl you want to marry by singing outside the girl's house while the girl and her parents are on the staring at them on the second floor window of their house. It was really an exciting part because whoever wins the category will get the chance to have their wedding be sponsored by the municipality aside from winning the cash prize.

Come on now and join the excitement!
