The Philippines is the largest English speaking country in Asia when it comes to person per square area basis, India having the largest number pf speakers due to its massive land area and population. More than 90% of Filipinos speak English, but not all can speak it properly. The Philippines is considered as one of the best English speakers, winning linguistic debates and competition all around the world. Outsourcing companies invested billions of dollars in the Filipinos' ability of communicating in English. Also, many foreigners will go to the Philippines just to learn English. In the current education system of the Philippines, the local vernacular is still the biggest proponent. Tagalog, or the Pilipino language, is still the favored medium of instruction by many schools perhaps because it can easily be understood by many. This morning our parents gathered us in our house in Tagaytay. We were all called up to talk about the ongoing dispute between two families that are close to us. It was the dispute between the Lumandas and the Ambagan family of Amadeo, Cavite. At first I was shocked by the news our parents told us. They started with saying Mayor OJ Ambagan have changed tremendously, on bad sides. The Ambagan family are the reigning political family of Amadeo, which our family is in close relation with. On the other hand, the Lumandas family, owner of one of the biggest part of Amadeo, is our distant relative. During high school, a substantial part of the academic completion is for students to read and comprehend the literary works by Philippine National Hero, Jose Rizal. The literature will then be studied again in most college curriculum. Rizal's works, most notably "Noli Me Tangere" and "El Filibusterismo" are obviously the most widely read academically required literature in the Philippines, especially for students. The novels were published abroad, with Noli Me Tangere published in Berlin (1887) and El Filibusterismo in Ghent, Belgium (1891). Both books were written in Spanish. The books gained great readership in many parts of the world and were translated in many languages. This afternoon I went to my cousin's house because it's Martin's birthday, their 8 year old son. They actually wanted me to go there in the morning but I told them I have something important to do. While there, I noticed the essays of their son created. All of them were pinned in the wall as they wanted to display it because it bears VERY GOOD remarks from Martin's teachers.
