The Holy Holiday

By ProTraveler at 03/18/08 07:38
The day has come, the day everybody have been waiting for. Holy Week. Tomorrow will officially mark the holy week, aside from the straight prayers for other people, it also means a long break.

That is why working citizens long for this holiday because this is the longest break they will ever have from office. Government departments will take their break starting tomorrow, Wednesday, while other private establishment, though only a few, will still work tomorrow and will have their break on Thursday but companies who still works on Wednesday must give double pay to their employees.

Piers and airports are all jam packed at the moment. Reports said chance passengers are now crowding their terminals in the hope of having a ride back to their provinces and original homes or to visit their families. It is said that last Saturday all planes are already book and tickets for sea vessels of all kinds were already sold out.

For tourist, Holy Week in the Philippines means a whole lot of adventure especially if they are bound in the Luzon area particularly in Pampanga and Tarlac as well as Zambales. It is because traditional crucifixion and cross-carrying processions and parade are annually done during the occasion.

Foreign and local travelers also do a lot of activities during this holiday. Many people went to beach resorts because they believe bathing in sea water before the death of Christ is a good thing to cleanse your sins. Others hike and do some sort of pilgrimage through trekking the Holy Mountains, namely Mt. Banahaw in Quezon, Sagada in the Mt. Province, Mt. Makiling in Laguna, Mt. Samat in Bataan and they said if you reallt think you committed a lot of sin, you must then hike your way to Mt. Apo in Davao, the highest mountain in the country, alone.

As for me, I still have not decided if I will go hike Mt. Banahaw or just stay home. Hmmm, I'm thinking of another way to celebrate my cold Holy Week.
