The President of the Republic of the Philippines or Ang Pangulo ng Republika ng Pilinas in Tagalog, serves as the head of estate and of the government of the Philippines. The President is voted by the public. The president holds the executive power, with the legislative and the judiciary under her. The president serves for 6 years and cannot run for presidency after finishing his/her term according to the present rules. The President lives in the Presidential Palace of Malacaņan, or commonly know as Malacaņang. The president is also the head of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. As a civilian, the President is the highest in ranking. The current president of the country is Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, the 14th president of the Republic. She succeeded the position of Pres. Joseph Ejercito-Estrada. She is also the 2nd female president after Pres. Corazon 'Cory' Aquino. Here is a list of the Presidents of the Republic of the Philippines.

From the 1950's to the first quarter of 70's, the Philippines ranked 2nd as the biggest economy in Asia next to Japan. The Philippines was hailed as one of the richest in Asia. However, when President Ferdinand Marcos came to power, he held the country to a martial and became dictator for almost 20 years. He was ousted by means of a People Power Revolution in 1986 and was replaced by Cory Aquino.
The current president was also seated because of the ousting of the then president Joseph Estrada, by a People Power Revolution as well. President. Gloria Arroyo continued the remaining term and then run for Presidency in the 2003 Presidential Election. Her term will end in 2010.
