Once every year, I make it a point that I got to visit the annual Manila International Book Fair. And this year, there's no stopping it. It is the time of the year where I gather with some other friends and go on a non-stop book shopping. The Manila International Book Fair will be celebrating their 29th year of existence. Oh how good it is to feel to be once again part of it. Usually it is held during the last week of August or the first week of September and is held on the World Trade Center but like all things, it's bound to change. It will now be on September 12 to 16 and will be held on SMX Convention Center (SM Mall of Asia Complex).
For the past years, my home library have been filled with books I bought from the fair. Aside from the tons of books you get to see during every Manila International Book Fair, you also have the chance to own them at it's lowest price.
I still remember how I got my Bridge To Terabithia book by Katherine Paterson in 2006 during the 27th Manila Book Fair. That time the venue was still in the World Trade Center in Pasay City. Oh boy you just don't know how good that book was. Probably one of the best I have ever read. It really brought my imagination to Terabithia. I was wishing it will be turn into a film and it just did. The movie version was shown during the first quarter of 2007 and I was like "Wow! It all came true! Terabithia is for real!". I just had to see it for myself and Anna Sophia Robb just melted my heart. Josh Hutcherson and Zooey Deschanel also supplied superb acting!
Counting all the books that I got from the fair, it will be over 200. If I have to count all of my books since I was a kid, that would be more than a thousand. Seriously. I bet my mom wanted to me to see books as toys. I'm glad I did. I toyed at them and up to now, books are still my best friend, just like how little cars and trains put smile to little boys.
So people if you have spare time, or perhaps you can re-schedule your appointment, visit the 29th Manila International Book Fair at SMX Convention Center in September. You have all the time to save your money now and spend it for some worthy shopping.
So as the book says, "Gotta park my pen!".
