After being hit by a devastating storm, the Philippines is doing its best to recover from whatever the disaster caused the country. The government partakes in making the ill-fated people recover and forgot the bad memory brought by Typhoon Frank or Fengshen as known internationally. Many countries have expressed their willingness to help Philippines bring the stability back to the lives of the people affected by the disaster. Australia and the US were the ones who first gave their hand to the government and offered help.
At the moment, the carrier USS Reagan is docked two miles offshore the island province of Iloilo. The aircraft carrier cannot come closer because the Philippine law prohibits any foreign vehicle, in sea, land or air, that carries nuclear weapons. The USS Ronald Reagan however still manages to help by their air frigates and planes that fly from their base to mainland Iloilo. The province is one of the place that were gravely damaged by the storm.
The United States also offered help in recovering dead bodies and help avoid possible contamination from the capsized commercial ship during typhoon Fengshen. Up to this date, more or less 4 dozens of the 900 passengers are said to have survived, and the rest are either dead or gone missing.
And very recently, just this morning, the whole Philippines gathered and forgot the minute of sadness as all came to witness and rejoiced the winning of the much awaited fight between the country's boxing icon, Manny Pacman Pacquiao against Mexican foe David The Dangerous Diaz. As many have prayed and expected, Manny Pacquiao emerged victorious. He knocked down Dangerous Diaz in the 9th round.
The Filipino boxer showed compassion against his rival when in the earlier rounds he had to stop punching Diaz to asked the referee to checked Diaz's wounds. He was concern that he might overdo Diaz and caused major damage. However, the referee said that although Diaz is bleeding and looks terribly not well, he can still fight.
During an interview, Pacquiao said Diaz is one of the best rival he had ever encountered. He said the Mexican is so humble, kind and very professional. Diaz had been added to the roster of Pacquiao's trophy as the great Mexicutioner, making him the first Filipino to have defeated the most number of Mexican foes.
The win also earned Pacquiao as the first and only Asian to date that has won 4 titles in different categories. He is now to defend his new WBC Lightweight champion belt in November.
I do hope all these will lead to the great recovery of the Philippines from the wounds left by Fengshen.
