Ocean Park Manila Bay

By ProTraveler at 03/12/08 03:49

Recently, the Philippines first ever ocean park was opened. It was a dream come true for many because they won't have to travel far just to see fishes and other marine life swimming over your head.

The Ocean Park Manila Bay located in Manila's coastal outline is said to be the largest ocean park in Asia with over 8,000 square meters as compared to Sentosa, Singapore's 6,000 sq.m ocean park. It also boast of having the highest number of marine life in Asia with over 20,000 of about 300 different species of marine animals.

But the park's aim is not just to attract visitors locally and abroad. The Department of Education recently signed a memorandum of agreement that will make sure Ocean Park will create a comprehensive program for student learning. It's like putting entertainment and education at the same time. The newly built attraction is also a big help for the economy employing around 2,000 workers and is estimated to generate Php20 Million pesos annually.

Ocean Park is divided into six sections all with Filipino names. They are Agos (flow/wave), Bahura (reef), Buhay na Karagatan (live ocean), Pating (shark), Ang Kalaliman (The Deep) and Laot (offing or offshore). It also has a multipurpose hall that is specially made for holding functions and parties. After the long but satisfying trip to the world of have-fins and have-gills, you can reward yourself by eating at the all-authentic restaurant inside the establishment called Tagpuan or Rendezvous in English.

The entrance fee is very cheap. It's only Php400 for adults and Php350 for children with special discounts for students and people with disability.
