Filipinos are known to work hard for their families. We are known to do anything just to send our kids to school, give them a better life, and give them the things we weren't able to have when we were still kids. I guess that's one of the greatest of being a Pinoy, the love for families and special someones. Filipinos are said to be everywhere. In any part of the world, you can see a Filipino. They are either working or visiting the place. Filipinos are the first Asians to ever set foot on the American continent in 1763 and followed by the Chinese in 1778. In the present day, Filipinos formed the second largest group of Asians in the United Sates, after the Chinese. There are also significant number of Filipinos in many parts of the world such as Canada, United Kingdom, Italy, France, Germany, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Dubai and many more. In Palau and Guam, Filipinos are the second largest group of people and in the Northern Marianas Islands, Filipinos are the largest. Life of a Filipino overseas is never easy. Most Filipinos abroad worked in different fields, most of them as Nurses and in electronics. Some have house-bound jobs and construction companies. Recently, a film about the life of a Filipino in United Kingdom hit the big screen. The main role is played by Philippine entertainment industry's Mega Star Sharon Cuneta. She played the role of a Filipina teacher who worked as a caregiver in UK in search for greener pasture for his family. Seems like this is the same story with my professor I told you before. Can you imagine the feeling of working abroad, caring for other person's children while your own children is living alone in care of another person? That's something that most people do not understand. It's not easy to work abroad while you worry what you're family is doing back home. You take care of other person while you can't even take care of your own family. These are the things many Filipinos sacrificed just to give their family a better life. You need to go and see the film, an eye opener to many aspirants who wants to become an OFW to work abroad. Caregiver is brought to us by Star Cinema and ABS-CBN Network. It is currently in all Philippine cinemas nationwide. It started last May 28. It also has international premieres in this location and dates. - May 31 - Los Angeles, CA
- Jun 1 - Honolulu Hawaii
- Jun 6 - London England
- Jun 7 - Rome Italy

Yes, Filipinos may be known 2work hard 4their families but are mostly known 2do degrading & dirty jobs in foreign countries all over the world. As u mentioned, filipinos would do anything just 2give their kids better future. I personally think its common reason 2escape reality & its not a great thing being a Pinoy. The movie to me is humiliating for the caregivers or other dirty-job workers(as they call it here) like cleaners in foreign countries. These people take whatever insult, or any discriminating act that they get everyday as they work just to give their families a bright future. For that, this film does not justify even tiny bit 2 what happens in real life. If the purpose of this movie was to make fellow filipinos realize what OFWs had to go through every single day working as caregivers, why not make a documentary about it which involves real lives, real people, instead of creating films for celebrities to be praised highly for a job well done, which is completely the opposite of what the OFWs get for the job they do abroad? I'd have to say this film is appalling. Comment #2 Alvin at 06/22/08 06:43
@ Filipino.ITgrp-UKIf you think being a Pinoy who works hard for their family is not great thing, then I guess you're just one of those moron who had a taste of good life abroad and forgot where they came from. You're one of those lowlife racist who do not know a thing or two other than bashing other people. I know a lot of Filipino who works abroad and none of them do dirty jobs. Every country has people who works as entertainers abroad, you're an idiot if you don't know that. I've seen people working on dirty pubs but guess what, they are not Pinoys. I'm not saying this to protect all Pinoys but I'm just stating the facts. You said it already, these people accepts every insult and discrimination as long as they can because these people are educated enough to know that fighting with those kinds of people is not worth it. Filipinos have high values and would prevent any fights and keep peace as much as possible. We're not barbaric. Those people you insult and discriminate are professionals in the country but unfortunately seeks greener pasture in other countries. And as far as I am concern, doing what you can and doing what are capable of doing best for the sake of your family is not a crime. Worse is if you just stand there watching your family die one by one because you did not thake the initiative. Comment #3 anne at 06/23/08 18:34
I watched this movie last night here in Toronto It is such a waste of money spcly our time. The title must be A WIFE and not CAREGIVER sharon didn't really have a problem with her job at all. I mean there is no point of naming the movie CAREGIVER. The writter/ they really dont know how a caregiver work. Somebody must do some research before filming a dirty job OTC. To comments 1 & 3, you guys are out of tune. Comment 1 - accept the fact that Filipinos have to work hard to survive in the foreign land just like any other nationalities living abroad. It's a reality of life. There's a BIG difference between a documentary and a movie my dear. What you have seen is a MOVIE so expect a little twist of truth. Caregiver is BASED on true story and is not really an actual or REAL event that you expected to watch. If you want you can do your own research as to how you can fill your brain with so much information related to caregiver if you are that defensive about how they live. Star Cinema is just being artistic enough to produce a movie depicting caregiver's lives abroad and NOT to humiliate our fellow kababayans by exposing real-life scenario. It's just a movie my dear don't take it seriously. It's partly truthful and the other half is artful. To comment 3 - can you please go back to your English 101 and review your favorite literature if you have any? It is extremely funny that you suggested "A Wife" as the title instead of "Caregiver". My dear the whole content of the movie is about caregiver and the word itself is a little vague to just refer to Sharon being the lead actress. It is about everything you do like you care about your family, husband and other people of which the story of the movie revolves around. It is about how the person survives in a faraway land with limited support from familiar people. Yes she is a wife but the focus of the movie is not about her passion, dreams and aspirations to please her husband and her kid but being able to fend her stay in a place full of challenges and to take every opportunity to boost her self-worth and dignity. Now that's the plot of the story my dear. Did you get it? Think before you write. Comment #5 reina at 07/08/08 16:44
hi i havent seen this film yet. but i think sharon is a good actress. i think its too emotional when ive seen the preview. many of the filipinos now is not like that because most of the filipinos here in england is educational and doesnt want to touch even plates because they want to change their life. anyway your right its only a film so the people who have a big pride themselves i think they dont want to understand because its too much for them to think that filipino its too down and so poor. hope sharon and the rest were happy when they stayed in UK. the movie was long been aired but we only the chace to watch it yesterday..well, yeah, the film is disgusting and disappointing. me and my colleagues here in qatar didnt find in the film the value of keeping the family. yes, it does reveal the realities of being an ofw, yet the other fact that we worked here for the wellness of our family became insignificant. one is right, the plot of the movie evolves around its title, but i believe family is the main reason why filipinos work abroad.the role played by john estrada is symbolic of a typical pinoy professional who struggles with his pride, being under employed abroad. its normal, its happening. what i think, is unacceptable was when "sarah" made a decision not to come to the phils with his husband, and decides to leave her husband, and live alone..is star cinema promoting a family disintegration among ofw's? there was no compelling reason in the film why "sarah" has to ruin their marriage. john estrada, as a husband was faithful, he was infact full of happiness and was so excited when "sarah" arrived in the place. the ending of the story tells it all, that when ur in foreign land, the aged value of pinoys of compromise, settling down the differences to save the marriage & the family, is forgotten, and just live with the norm of community where we are in fact, aliens...all in all, the movie is a failure. Comment #16 mark at 10/12/08 02:20

Not really a Sharon fan, but more of a loving husband to my wife. She wanted to watch this one for the longest time and we finally scored a dvd copy from her sister. Of course she wanted me to watch the movie with her... Really did not paid attention to the acting and all but paid more attention to the storyline. Napansin ko lang, the old man that Sharon was taking care of, as we found out later in the movie is rich or maybe well off. After all, he owns a mansion in the countryside, complete with a few servants. If that is the case, why would he settle to live in a nursing home and cared for by strangers? He can well afford to live in his own house, complete with servants to take care of him. Who would want to live in a nursing home? It just doesn't make sense!!! Comment #19 flame at 11/20/08 22:42
don't under estimate all Filipinos or even criticize our races, we go to abroad not because we want to escape reality because we do this for our family and to our future not just for our self ...thank you
