Mayon Volcano, said to be the world's most perfect cone volcano can be found in the island of Luzon in the province of Albay located in the Bicol Region, Philippines.
Mayon Volcano is the most active volcano in the country, having recorded to have erupted for almost 50 times in just 400 years. The province of Albay experience the volcano's benefits to them. It is the most visited landmark in the Philippines. It generates billions of pesos annually from tourist, foreign students and spectators or for people who wanted to rent the point wherein the best side of the volcano can be seen.
This coming May, from the 15-18, Mayon Volcano and its inhabitants around it will celebrate the festival that said to have started the formation of the Volcano. It is usually called by commoners as Mayon Festival but for locals, the festivals name is Magayon Festival.
From an old story, a legend about Mayon, Magayon is the towns leader who fell in love with Panganoron. But their love was againts their families will that is why they have been seperated. In turn, the lovers flee and committed suicide. After a few days, the place where they have killed themselves became a mountain that has come to be know as Mayon. Magayon is said to be the volcano while the clouds that has permently kissed the peak of the mountain is said to be Panganoron. They envelope each other day by day. Whenever they explode, old people said you can hear the volcano crying from a voice of a male and a female.
This legend will be depicted in a play during every Mayon Festival along with other activities such as making the best portrait of Mayon, capturing the best shot for Mayon in a film, and making food from anything that will look like Mayon.
