For The Mom Of All Season

By Kristy May Sandejas at 05/12/08 23:22
About 50% of Philippine women work. Seems like the millenia of the housewife reigning is over. Women have already gain the stature of a career person. Before, Filipinas are only bound to stay in the house, prepare food, take care of the kids, maintain the house and do the budgeting. But that era has long been gone.

Filipino women are strong. They are dedicated. They persevere a lot to get to their position and will never quit on anything they have already started. The Filipinas rising to the top started by the dawn of the 20th century but peaked in 1986 when Filipinas realized they can also come to power when the Philippines elected its first lady president, President Corazon Aquino. She is the wife of the assassinated senator, Sen. Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino - the one in the 500 Philippine peso bill. From then on, these highly motivated women conquered the business district, the economic sector, and even the known male-only jobs.

Then it was followed by the current president, Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, the daughter of the late president Diosdado Macapagal. Even though she faces a lot of mocking and disturbances, she remained strong, thus empowering and inspiring a lot of Filipinas.

My grandmother, my mom and my sisters are all career women. My grandma is a known philanthropist, business woman and a fashion icon in her own right. Her death early this year enabled me to see how great she was during her time when a lot of her friends and the industry she belonged to mourned with us. My mom is an entrepreneur, a retired professor and a full pledge wife. Though we always have misunderstanding, I cannot deny that she's the one who inspires me everytime I have to deal with problems, because I've seen countless times how quite great she handles a problem. My sisters are all professionals now. They have proven many times how strong women in our family are.

You may have noticed now the reason why I am writing this. Yes, it's because yesterday we celebrated Mother's Day in the Philippines. I wanted to show the world how great a Filipina is and how great she is becoming a mother. Problems may come and go, trials may come and pass. But she will always stay firm and strong, proving she the is lady of standards, the woman of principles and the mom for all seasons.

Happy Mother's Day for all the moms in the world.
