The news about the Filipino local singer Arnel Pineda being the new vocal lead of the band Journey is not new to many. For a couple of months now, Arnel Pineda currently holds the position as the bands vocalist. Many have been fascinated by how Arnel was discovered by the band's guitarist, Neil Schon. Arnel was at that time still a member of a local band hwo regularly plays cover songs to local bars. They uploaded some of their performances on the internet video hot spot, YouTube.
Neil Schon, on a quest to find a good lead singer that could match Steve Perry, the original vocalist, browsed YouTube and was delighted to hear the powerful voice of Arnel Pineda. They exchanged e-mails and the next thing we know Arnel got the job after auditioning personally in the US. Here is a short video of Arnel's discovery.
According to Pineda, he do not aim to replace Perry in the heart of his fans because he is simply irreplaceable and even stated that he will step down in case Perry would decide to rejoin the band.
Aside from Arnel Pineda, there is also a band that is continuously making a name in the Philippine entertainment scene. They are the Obeso brothers or more popularly known as MoyMoy Palaboy Band. The duo started putting videos on YouTube for the reason that they just wanted to see their selves on YouTube being watch by others.
In a matter of months, Moymoy Palaboy developed a cult following and their videos garnered more than 10 millions since early 2007. Due to their popularity, the Philippine's longest running gag show, Bubble Gang of GMA Network hired the duo to regularly appear on their segment, IyoTube, roughly translated as YouTube in Tagalog.
Moymoy Palaboy were also given a cable stint to appear regularly on short commercial segments for MTV Philippines.
