Perhaps one of the more famous attraction in the Philippines for tourists is the ever popular Chocolate Hills found in the island province of Bohol. The hills are all natural, shaped by nature thousands of years ago. There have been various theories as to how the hills were formed but to date, none have been proven. Chocolate Hills is consists of 1,268 perfectly cone-shaped hills. The hills are also mysteriously about the same size each. One of the most common attraction known to the world that is found only in the Philippines is the majestic volcano, the almost perfect cone Mt. Mayon. Mayon is said to be the most perfect cone volcano/mountain in the world, only rivaled by the white capped Mt. Fuji of Japan. Mayon is located in Legazpi, Albay, a town survived by farming and tourism despite being hit by disastrous storms and occasional trembling of the ground. The volcano is also the most active in the Philippines, which erupted last in 1993 though there are still volcanic activities last 2006. Perhaps you all know about the ongoing competition for the New Seven World Wonders of the World. It has a category called New Seven World Wonders of Nature, and in that particular category, the Philippines has 4 entries.The Seven Wonder of the World foundation will run the nomination up to December 31, 2008 and the voting for the Top 77 will be up to July 7, 2009. From the Top 77, 21 will be chosen as finalist on July 21, 2009 under the supervision of Prof. Federico Mayor. The 21 finalist will then compete via online voting and the final New Seven Wonder of Nature will be announced sometime in 2010.
