Pahimis Festival 2008

By Jude Wallenberg at 04/28/08 04:06

Last night I attended the last installment of the Pahimis Festival 2008 in Amadeo, Cavite.

I was with my cousins and some friends and we witness the last night of the only coffee festival of the country. As some of you may know, the town of Amadeo in the province of Cavite is known as the Coffee Capital of the Philippines. Pahimis is their local term that means "Thanksgiving" or sometimes use as "Thank You". Pahimis is usually scheduled every last week of February but was rescheduled for the last week of April. I do not know if this will be a permanent decision.

While in the festival, I got to meet and see a lot of people. There were bands, sports competition, dance competition, singing competition and the coffee competition. The coffee competition is like making another useful product using either coffee beans, the coffee tree - and transforming it to a more useful form.

It was fantastic. I also got to see their magnificent church. Even though the whole architecture of the church has just recently been built, the actual age of the church on that position is already a hundred years. The interior of the church is just magnificent. I actually took a video and photos of it but unfortunately, my SC card where my files are was borrowed to me by a friend and I can't upload them now. But I will show it to you as soon as I have it back.

There are also bargain sales during the festival. Outside the church, there are vendors selling different kinds and colors of birds. There are also a huge variety of food and some delicacies that is called "Kakanin". These are foods that are intended for snack and is usually made from sticky rice or sometimes from mashed potatoes. The local government of Amadeo also hired some entertainment personalities that adds to the entertaining side of the festival and of the town.

And after the festival that ended around 3am, I joined my family who are going to the nearby town of Ternate, Cavite. A coastal town that has exquisite resorts. So wait for my review of our Ternate trip.
