Philippine Advertising and the Nescafe 3 in 1 Alien Commercial

By Gill Bautista at 06/05/08 06:17

Philippines did it again. After being mentioned in the previous shortlist in 2007, Philippine advertisers once again made it to the list, and even got bronze Clio Award. There are also other who made it to the shortlist of Clio.

The winning advertisement is for a radio commercial entitled "Are We There Yet?" for the Philippine Shell Better Mileage Gasoline. This commercial is from JWT Manila. Other Philippine advertisement who made it to the shortlist are "Clogged Nose", a poster advertisement by Drixine and "Sarah", for the Unicef radio commercial.

Also, Publicis Manila, an advertising agency, released the much awaited alien commercial for Nestle Philippines' Nescafe 3 in 1. Watch it.

YouTube Video

At the start of the commercial, you see the male model getting off the Jeepney, the most famous means of transportation in the Philippines. The building in the opening is one of the University of the Philippines' college department or maybe it is the Alumni building bu the actual animation footage is done in UNITEL Prod. house in Makati. The song is from a The Jerks, a Pinoy band who rose to fame in the 70's, 80's and 90's. They sing acoustic reggae and classic songs.

The commercial is a collaboration work with international agencies and animators. Some came from Thailand and most of the team who worked for the animation is from the United Kingdom.

@comment #5 - The band who sung the song used in the commercial is called The Jerks. They are a defunct group now but they were popular back in the 80s and 90s in the Philippine music scene. The song is not by Hale hehe.

For those who were asking about the name of the model, he is RYAN JULIO UMENGAN. He is the son of Raul Umengan, a history professor in Ateneo de Manila University.
