Philippines is home to millions of Filipino Muslims. About 5%-10% of the total population of the country are Muslims, mostly living in the different regions of Mindanao, most notably in the Sulu archipelago, located in the Southernmost part of the Philippines.
Although most of them are living in that part of the country, there were some who relocated in other regions in search for greener pastures. They have established settlements in Palawan, Cebu, Bohol, Iloilo, Laguna, Rizal, Batangas, Cavite and most espcially, in the National Capital Region (NCR).
Quiapo and Baclaran are two places in Metro Manila where Muslims are abundantly found. You can see them in almost every angle of the place. This is because mos of them are businessmen. If there's something muchly associated with them, it will be their being natural entrepreneurs.
Although there are a lot of difference in religious beliefs, Catholics, non-Catholics and Muslims (Islam) are living harmoniously. You can even find areas where Muslims and other people with different religion are living together. Over the years, people learned to accept what others belief.
This coming August 22, our Muslim brothers in the Philippines as well as in different parts of the world will observe one of their holiest events, the Ramadan. It is a religious observance wherein all participating Muslims refrain from doing ill-natured acts, things they believe excessive and normal activities such as eating, drinking, sexual conduct and smoking.
Ramadan is held every ninth month of the year in the Islamic calendar. This year, it will take place from August 22 to September 19. The whole duration will be done all in the honor of Allah, to fast for him, and offer prayers more than the usual prayer they do everyday.
