It's been week since the first cold wind blew, making us remember summertime is once again over and pushing in our minds that it's time again for some serious business - that means its time for some schooling and stuffing your brains with overflowing knowledge again. Well, no more schools for me, I'm done with that, but I kinda miss it. Unlike in some western countries that school starts in mid 2nd or 3rd quarter of the year, its more like September or August, majority of the schools in Asia starts the school year in early June, just in time after people enjoyed their summer vacations. It's the time of the year again, where you can see a lot of people rushing in the shopping malls cramming to buy the remaining stocks of school supplies. It's this time of the year that you will see elementary students with their parents falling in line for their kids to be registered to the greatest schools in every town. It's a pity if the quota is over and they will have to find a new school - at least for the private sectors. But if it's for the public, there's no actual restriction on the number of students per class.
Its this time of the year where high school students are battling their way to enroll at the highest section possible. Late enrollment means you belong to the last section of your level. It's also the time for getting along with new friends, or meeting old friends and classmates.
But the most exciting would be the new challenges college students will be facing. It's time to drop those childish ways from your high school and be more mature and responsible and focus. There's no playing anymore. Normally, you would see enrollees filing their way to the registration offices of the best of best of the Philippines' colleges and universities.
The University of the Philippines school system is the most famous of those witty, brainiac students. It's the top university in the country, so there's do doubt it will be the most famous. It's also famous for its being "open". No uniform, students are free to do anything - almost. Since it is funded by the people's taxes, U.P. Students are often called Iskolar ng Bayan (translate: People's Scholar) thus gaining the general nickname of Isko. Other famous universities are Ateneo de Manila University, De la Salle University, University of Santo Tomas - the oldest university in Asia and a lot more.
But then, I guess, all I can do is sit here and reminisce the moments of me being a student. Ahh, those were the days...
