The conclusion for the Obando Fetility Rites or locally known as Sayaw sa Obando 2008 (Dance in Obando) has come to an end. The 3 day festival, despite the ehavy rains, went on a blast and prove to be very able in attracting visitors.
Believers of the festival, most of them newly wed couples, do have the strongest faith that the dance will grant them their love child. It is believed for ages that dancing in the honor of Santa Clara, the patron saint of the town, will grant them a child, whatever your age may be. According to the townspeople, its your faith that determines the results of your action.
Nationwide coverage of the event was shown in national television channels. The number of tourist and participants for this year's celebration is relatively lower than the previous ones, however, it did not paralyze the event and it ended properly.
The surprising thing is, most of this year's participants and visitors are foreigners. The local tourists may have dwindled, but the international exposure of the event was raised. Foreigners who are hoping to bear a child after their dance can be spotted for the whole duration of the event. Unlike others who only attend the first day or the second or on the third day, these foreigners seem desperate for they attended all three days of celebration.
Despite heavy rains, the event prove to b unstoppable. The Sayaw sa Obando in Obando, Bulacan is not the only event the province of Bulacan must be prepared for. The season for storms is fast approaching and the province is known to be visited by storms every year. Occasional flooding happens so I think they have to be prepared for it. Especially now that 2 to 3 tropical storms are expected to visit the country in the 2 coming months to they are expected to be weak and not devastating. NOt a serious threat, but utmost care is till advised.
