Mindanao is the second biggest island of the Philippines next to Luzon. It is located in the southern part of the country, comprising of landlocked districts and smaller islands. Most of Mindanao's inhabitants, especially in the southernmost regions, are muslims.Mindanao has always been the reserve destination of tourists who visits the Philippines. Because of its distance from the capital region, it is rarely visited although there are a couple of places where regular visitors usually go like Siargao, Davao, Zamboanga or Davao.
Because of this, tourist revenue from Mindanao is relatively lower as compared to those located in Luzon and in the Visayas region. What many people do not know about Mindanao is that it actually house many of the Philippines hidden wonders.
The Tubbataha reef is located in Mindanao. Siargao, the nations surfing capital is also located in Mindanao. Davao is considered the The City of Royalties. It is cosidered as the Royal City because most of the country's "Kings" and "Queens" are here. The Waling-Waling is said to be the queen of orchids can be found in Davao. The durian fruit, the king of all exotic fruits is also here. The biggest eagle in the world, the mighty Philippine Eagle also nests in Davao. The biggest party place, The Venue, is also located in Davao. And Davao itself is the King of all cities in the Philippines for being the largest in terms of land size.
Zamboanga is also in Mindanao, the most colorful city of the country. Their very own Vintas or colored boats can prove this. General Santos City is also a great destination for tourists especially if you're the one who likes tunas. It is the Tuna Capital of the Philippines, has one of the biggest fishing ports in the country, and is also home to boxing legend and Philippine pride, Manny "Pacman" Paquiao.
The government is promoting Mindanao for the past years as one of the best place while in the country. As part of its campaign, the government encourages local groups and organizations to hold seminars and workshops located in Mindanao. The latest of these seminars will be tomorrow, Juner 18 up to 21. The June 18-21 seminar expo will be about the food packaging and processing industry in Davao for big and small enterprises.
