Philippines is the most beautifully shaped archipelago in the world. If you will look at it on the map, the whole country is bordered by great bodies of water. The country is rich in marine life. In 2006, the Philippines was given the title "The Center of the World In Marine Diversity" according to a study conducted by Kent Carpenter, Old Dominion University associate professor of biological sciences in Virginia, USA. While in 2007, Philippines was awarded the center of the center of marine bio-diversity and the world's highest concentration of marine life by America's Smithsonian Institute specifically in the Verdes Islands.
The Verdes Island is now put to security when the government announced that it is now a protected marine sanctuary as part of its way to conserve the site. It is known that the Verdes Straight is a busy sea highway where sea vessels venture everyday from Batangas to Mindoro to reach Puerto Galera. Now it was re-routed to avoid the deterioration of the marine spot.
Also, one of the pride of the country is the Tubbataha Reeef located in Southern Mindanao.
Tubbataha has been declared a National Marine Parkand a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is now a contender on the ongoing voting for the New Seven Wonders Of The World.
Philippines is indeed a diver's paradise.
