Last Friday, I went to the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City because I planned earlier that week that I will attend the 2008 Youth For I.T. (Y4iT). Even though I am not an I.T. professional, I still wanted to attend the event for some reason. And besides, I believe one of my friends is an officer in that event, so I thought why not pay him a visit.
I wanted to see Sen. Imee Marcos, the daughter of former president Ferdinand Marcos and Imelda Marcos, as she is one of the guest speakers and also my niece is there as a school-registered attendee. But when I got there, my plan for Y4iT changed. I was hesitant to register since a lot of people are crowding the entrances, most of them are in delegations, from schools around the metro and nearby provinces. I'm like a lost kid in the middle of a foreign market.
Instead of going to the Bahay ng Alumni (Alumni House), I just roam around the place and cavort with the lovely nature of UP Diliman. I so love this school. It's one of the few universities in the country that thoroughly encourages critical thinking and they have less religion based academics making them more appealing to me. Plus they green environment and wide field is so relaxing
Academic innovations often start in this university. Being the national university of the Philippines, students of UP Diliman earn great respect form many people, calling them the 'iskolar ng bayan' (national scholar) or 'pag-asa ng Pilipinas' (hope of the Philippines). Though I personally think the university is so overrated, it is still an undeniable fact that they are indeed the best university of the country, in general.
I am not being biased. I did not graduate from this school so there's no need for me being biased, although I entered UP as my first school in college, but later transferred to another school to have my mom's wish fulfilled. I'm such a good son, am I not? Haha.
Anyway, I'm all inviting you to attend the 29th Manila International Book Fair on September 12-16 at the SM Mall of Asia Convention Center (SMX). It's a whole day of book shopping so don't miss it guys!
